Kids’ Planting Day!

The first of our Kids’ Planting Days is coming up in just a couple of weeks. On Saturday, May 13th bring the kids by anytime between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and they’ll be able to create a potted masterpiece. We’ll provide the container, plants, soil, instructions and advice – and we’ll even take care of the cleaning up. Cost is just $8 per container.

These kid created containers also make lovely Mother’s Day gifts. Hint, hint.

Caffeine Free & Delicious!

MarketSpice Cinnamon & Orange Tea has been a favorite of tea lovers since 1911 and is always one of the most popular teas here at Incahoots as well. Since many people try to avoid caffeine, we were on the lookout for a lower caffeine version and decided to try out their Red Bush tea.

The results were unanimous: it’s delicious! (Some even like it better than the original). And since it’s made with rooibos, it’s caffeine-free. You can now find it among our many tea offerings – it might even become your new favorite.

African red bush (rooibos…pronounced roy-boss) is a shrub with needle-like leaves grown only in South Africa. The bush is actually green, but oxidation after cutting causes the leaves to turn red. African red bush has a naturally sweet taste and is well-known for its high level of antioxidant properties.

Gorgeous New Pottery

The load of new pots arrived late last week and we are stocked up on both terra cotta and glazed pots in the most popular sizes. The glazed pots come in a range of colors – red, black, orange, blues, and my personal favorite, a mottled dark green that’s called wasabi.

The company we get these from is down in Gardena California and they have the best prices we’ve found. A great value and excellent quality.

P. S. There are still more larger-sized plant containers that we need to clear out and they on sale at up to 50% off!

New Plants!

Be sure to drop by soon for a spirit-lifting stroll through the garden department. A couple more deliveries have just arrived with enormous quantities of gorgeous new plants.

One plant that arrived in a bit greater numbers than we had planned is Creeping Lily Turf (Liriope spicata). This member of the Asparagus family is fast spreading and helps control erosion. It’s evergreen, grows up to 1-1/2 feet tall and does well under shallow rooted trees and along streams and ponds. It even tolerates deer. And as a bonus, it sends up spikes of pale lavender flowers in late summer.

These plants are regularly priced at $8.99, but until their numbers thin out, when you buy one, we’ll give you a second absolutely free.

P. S. Liriope is pronounced luh-rahy-uh-pee and was named for the mythological Greek nymph who was the mother of Narcissus.

Care For Air Plants

The genus Tillandsia is a unique group of plants. Often referred to as “Air Plants,” they are epiphytes of the American subtropics and tropics. In their natural habitat, they are found growing in trees, on rocks, bark, and mossy surfaces. They have little or no roots and absorb nearly all their nutrients through their leaves.

Tillandsia are easily grown in the house in bright filtered light and medium-warm conditions. Watering can be done by misting the plants 2 or 3 times a week or by submerging them in room temperature water for about 10 minutes each week.

You’ll find a new assortment of these little wonders in the indoor plant area happily awaiting your arrival.
